We are scoping our policy approach for 2025. As APSCo Southeast Asia are new to the Malaysian landscape, and as trade associations are not as prevalent in the Asia Pac region as in the United Kingdom and Europe, our core focuses are;
Raising our brand profile with the recruitment sector, politicians, policy makers and other stakeholders;
Explaining our purpose as a trade body both in Malaysia and globally; and
Explaining permanent and temporary recruitment in the professional sectors we support and why these sectors are so key to Malaysia's growth as a nation; and
Explaining how we and our members can support the government in its objectives, for example facilitating good jobs for Malaysian nationals and encouraging repatriation.
Policy Key Points
Members are already reporting some issues to us that they would like to see APSCo Southeast Asia represent the sector on:
The challenge of setting up a contracting business in Malaysia and the lack of clarity around the options and the process; and
The need for more flexibility around international talent work permits;
The inaugural Representative Committee meeting in May will be a good opportunity for members to feedback their experiences and their concerns.
Being Alive to Global Challenges and Opportunities
Trump's new US tariffs and their impact on Southeast Asia has raised interest levels in existing and potential cooperation between other countries in the region. The health of the wider economy has a direct impact on APSCo members' business performance and we are always looking for new opportunities for us to promote and support our recruitment company service businesses:
The CPTPP trans-pacific trade partnership has potentially generous terms for service businesses and both the UK and Malaysia are keen to increase business on these terms;
The Johor Economic Zone abutting Singapore is a critical growth sector with a focus on technology, energy and engineering which plays to our members' strengths.
If you operate in Singapore or Malaysia and are interested in joining APSCo Southeast Asia, please contact Gareth Bibby at gareth.bibby@apsco.org to explore potential membership or collaborative opportunities.
